The pump shaft extends outward through the pump body, with a gap between the rotating and stationary components. If the pressure inside the pump is greater than the external pressure, the fluid leaks out through the gap. If the suction side of the pump is under vacuum, air flows into the pump through the gap, which severely affects the pump’s performance. To reduce leakage, shaft end sealing devices are installed at the gaps. The floating ring seal is a type of shaft end seal; it is a non-contact dynamic seal that prevents fluid leakage by relying on the extremely small gap between the floating metal ring and the shaft or housing, and is commonly referred to as a floating ring seal.
