At the first station of the refined oil pipeline train, there are two feed pumps and three main transfer pumps. I would like to ask what purpose these feed pumps serve?
This post was last edited by we11we11 on 2018-11-23 at 12:29. It seems to be something that ensures the inlet pressure; otherwise, the large pump has a high flow rate but low head pressure. After pressurizing it with an oil feed pump, the outlet pressure of the large pump also increases. I’m not sure if this is the case. It was mentioned in previous training sessions, but I’ve forgotten
Feeding pumps are commonly used in pump stations that serve as the first station or starting point in a pipeline system. The suction performance requirements for the main oil transfer pump are quite high. To increase the inlet pressure of this pump and ensure a sufficient flow rate, it is difficult to maintain the static pressure at the oil tank level at the required level. Therefore, feeding pumps are installed in the inlet circuit of the main oil transfer pump (at intermediate injection points or stations; these pumps are referred to as injection pumps, and their function is to supply oil). The fuel pump can be an end-suction radial split pump, or it can be a horizontal split-pump. The end-suction radial split pump has its split surface arranged radially; it is widely used in situations where the installation space for the inlet and outlet pipes is limited or relatively small. Additionally, end-suction radial split-case centrifugal pumps are also the most commonly used process pumps.
