I’d like to ask the experts: I feel that the management of special equipment in our company is in a very chaotic state, and I’m not sure how to handle it. Could everyone tell me how their companies manage this? Which department needs to be involved and what documents are required? Thank you all!
The company’s Equipment Department is in charge of special equipment, with a dedicated department head and full-time equipment staff, who develop various management systems for such equipment. The branch factories or workshops are also managed by designated supervisors and full-time equipment officers. These units establish their own systems for managing special equipment, as well as relevant records and logs. Based on the condition of the equipment, such logs should contain records of maintenance and self-inspections on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Equipment cleaning and refueling are carried out by the operators, while tasks that require disassembly in order to carry out maintenance are done by the maintenance workers. Therefore, it is necessary to define clear roles and responsibilities. When the equipment reaches its expiration date, the full-time equipment officer in the branch factory or workshop submits a report in advance to the company’s equipment department to request an inspection. In short, the company’s Equipment Department is primarily responsible for supervising, inspecting, and handling external affairs related to the inspection of special equipment, while the branch factories and workshops are tasked with carrying out the actual management work. The management of special equipment involves establishing a comprehensive management system, defining roles and responsibilities, and then using assessment systems to enhance execution efficiency. Note: Managers at all levels of special equipment must hold the corresponding management certificates.
1 Special equipment is regulated by relevant laws and regulations, which contain clear provisions. 2 The basic elements for effective management are: following established procedures and abiding by laws and regulations. 3 Poor management reflects chaotic thinking on the part of managers, and the corporate decision-making level bears primary responsibility for this.
