I would like to ask everyone for advice regarding one of the testing parameters for lubricants used in large-scale machinery: mechanical impurities. The domestic standard for this parameter is GB/T511, \"Method for Determining Mechanical Impurities in Petroleum and Petroleum Products and Additives.\" What is the corresponding international standard? Since the testing is being carried out abroad, it’s not appropriate to use the domestic standard; however, I haven’t been able to find an international standard for mechanical impurities either. I’d appreciate anyone’s insights on this matter. Additionally, the version of GB 11120-1989 regarding L-TSA turbine oil mentions the testing parameter of mechanical impurities, but in the later revised version, GB 11120-2011 for turbine oil, there is no mention of mechanical impurities anymore – instead, it refers to cleanliness. I wonder if anyone has noticed this change

Mechanical impurities are already an outdated concept that has been phased out in the power industry; we can use the PQ index and ferrography analysis as alternatives
Should those mechanical impurities be measured or replaced? There is still a lot of oil that needs to have its mechanical impurities tested; I’m not sure what good methods and standards exist for this
If it is necessary to measure mechanical impurities, just follow the national standards.
