Our factory uses M-type counterbalanced compressors with six rows and four stages, produced by Shenyang Gear Pump Co., Ltd. The design pressure for each row is: 0.16 for the first row, 0.5 for the second row, 0.16 for the third row, and 2.5 for the fourth row. The unit is equipped with control valves for the first/first stage and the fourth/third stage. Recently, in an effort to reduce energy consumption, it was found that during operation the valve for the first/first stage was opened wide, causing the pressure in that stage to drop to 0.12. Efforts were made to close the valve for the fourth/third stage; once the pressure in that stage reached 2.3, we wanted to know whether such operation is correct. Apart from the compression ratio exceeding the designed value, could this lead to surge? ? ? Seeking advice from experts! ! !
Reciprocating compressors do not have the problem of surging; I’m not sure what exactly you mean.
The air volume is set once per cycle; although it’s also possible to control the air volume every four cycles, this approach is rarely used. The setting of every four cycles is generally applied when starting without pressure. It was turned off right after it started.
Don’t piston engines have a surge problem? Sure?
Surge is specific to centrifugal compressors; reciprocating compressors do not experience surge.

With each adjustment of the load, the compression ratio of the engine unit undergoes significant changes, and may even exceed the specified limits
By the way, we use motor drive for constant speed
Adjust the load once per cycle, and shut it off completely every four cycles; the pressures at the second and third stages increase steadily in a regular manner. If the pressure at the outlet of the fourth stage is too high, consider whether there might be a pressure buildup issue in the subsequent stages. We also have motors with compressors.
