Our company’s Roots blower is used to transport polystyrene product particles. The original process was such that the air entering the Roots blower came from the inspection chamber, while the air exiting the Roots blower was used to transport polystyrene particles to the inspection chamber. Since the inlet air contains polystyrene particles, this leads to clogging of the rotary vane pump’s impellers as well as the fins of the heat exchanger downstream. On one hand, this results in the rotary vane pump operating at high temperatures (60°C); on the other hand, the frequent need to clean the equipment becomes a bottleneck that affects its delivery capacity. I want to change the inlet of the Roots blower to draw in ambient air – is such a modification possible? It is equivalent to changing the original process, which will lead to those consequences – what impacts will that have? I would like to ask the experts here.

It is recommended to take a look at why a cyclic design was chosen at that time. Whether certain impurities and elements in the air can cause chemical reactions with the material. These issues need to be confirmed. If it weren’t for these, the original design from back then wouldn’t have chosen a loop; it’s not clear whether there is a problem. As for solving the current problem, a self-cleaning filter can also be installed in front of the machine, which will address your issue as well.
It is sufficient to add a set of high-quality imported filtration units; the flow rate of these units should be 2.5 to 3 times that of the air drawn in by the Roots blower
It is more reasonable to improve the cleanliness of the existing inlet recirculated air rather than converting it to ambient air.
