Could someone tell me what a main oil pump for a reciprocating compressor is like? It would be great if there were pictures
The main oil pump refers to the primary oil pump; where there is a main oil pump, there is usually also an auxiliary oil pump, which can also be considered a backup oil pump. Such compressors generally have a large air volume and an external oil station; the oil pump can be a centrifugal pump, a screw pump, or something of that kind.

In reciprocating compressors, a pump station is usually installed outside the main unit as an auxiliary oil pump. Before starting the main unit, it is necessary to activate the auxiliary oil pump first to ensure that the oil supply to all areas that require oil is adequate; only then can the unit be started. Once the compressor is running, the main oil pump, which is connected to the compressor shaft, supplies oil to all the areas that need it. When the oil pressure supplied by the main oil pump is within the normal range, the auxiliary oil pump shuts down due to interlock mechanisms. When the oil pressure of the main oil pump becomes abnormal, the auxiliary oil pump will start in an interlocked manner.

The main oil pump refers to the primary oil pump; this explanation is a bit forced. In my opinion, it should be the oil pump that does the work when the compressor is operating normally
Large-scale units typically have two main oil pumps, one in operation and one as a backup; both are referred to as main oil pumps.
