The damage and costs associated with the idle operation of stainless steel magnetic centrifugal pumps are significant. Idle operation of magnetic pump causes damage to various components, including the pump body, inner magnets, outer magnets, static ring, impeller, isolation sleeve, pump shaft, thrust ring, seal ring, etc. During the use of magnetic pumps, idling is a cause of many failures; therefore, users must understand that magnetic pumps should not be left idle. Allow me to briefly explain why magnetic pumps cannot be left idle. The main reasons are as follows: 1. Magnetic pumps cannot operate at idle speed, as they consist of a cooling medium in their magnetic cylinders, and air presence can cause the magnetic cylinders to lock up. 2. The bearings of the magnetic pump rotor are mostly made of cemented carbide and are lubricated by the medium; the pump itself cannot provide lubrication. 3. After the pump is emptied, there is no material to cool the pump, so it is possible for the diaphragm to burn directly. 4. The core components of a magnetic pump are the external magnetic assembly and the internal magnetic assembly. If it runs idle, the core components will demagnetize at high temperatures, and the performance of the magnetic pump will **degrade due to demagnetization**. Magnetic pump. The front end of the magnetic pump’s shaft is equipped with a stuffing box, which provides reliable sealing. At the same time, a mechanical seal is installed on the bearing housing, which prevents significant leakage; only a small amount of leakage occurs through the leakage ports. It is normal to have some leakage at the beginning of startup operations, and after the seal surfaces have been in operation for a certain period of time, the leakage will decrease or stop. 2. There are two ball bearing housings; one ball bearing on the side of the pump impeller of the magnetic pump that is lubricated by the heat-conducting oil being transported is lubricated with high-temperature grease, while the other ball bearing, located on the coupling side, is also lubricated in this manner. After 3000 hours of operation, each ball bearing must be removed and cleaned, and the diesel engine must be inspected. If the contact surfaces are damaged, new bearings must be installed. When installed on the impeller side with ball bearings, one side of the dust cover should be mounted on the impeller, and it should be opened before injecting the heat transfer oil. 3. The magnetic pump should be able to operate at no less than 30% of its designed flow rate for continuous operation. If it is necessary to operate under these conditions, a bypass pipe should be installed at the outlet so that the flow rate is minimized. 4. Check for any looseness in the foot bolts, whether the temperature of the stainless steel magnetic pump casing is consistent with the inlet temperature, as well as the fluctuations in the outlet pressure gauge and the vibration of the pump. 5. Pay attention to ensure that the magnetic pump operates without noise; if any abnormality is detected, it should be addressed promptly.
