Our company has a centrifugal blower for the wastewater biological treatment tank; its bearings exhibit normal horizontal and vertical vibrations, but high axial vibration. Could this be caused by rotor shift? Or are there other reasons? Is there a solution?
I’m not sure about the connection method of your fan – whether it’s a direct connection or one using a coupling – so I can’t make any further judgments. In the case of a direct connection, the problem could lie with the rotor shaft, the motor end cover, or the motor itself

If the motor bearings are rolling bearings, there is no play; whereas with sliding bearings, there is a magnetic center line, resulting in a certain amount of play. This type of backlash is usually also restricted by the thrust bearings in gearboxes or fan compressors. If the phenomenon you are referring to is vibration beyond the designed values, it is necessary to analyze things from scratch – to determine whether the problem exists since the initial installation of this equipment or has developed over time. This is related to factors such as the prestress from the connection between the foundation and the equipment, bearing damage, and the dynamic balance of the rotor. Especially regarding the dynamic balance issue, is it most likely that the vibration is caused by scale accumulation on the impeller? It is recommended to conduct a disassembly inspection; if scaling occurs on the impeller, it should be cleaned first, and a maintenance schedule for future use should be established. Scale removal methods include media-based removal, water flushing, and silty scale removal for reference.
