Step 1: Grind the damaged area of the belt. When repairing a belt, mechanical grinding and other methods are required to remove organic or inorganic substances on the surface that hinder bonding, thereby providing an appropriate level of roughness to the surface. This increases the effective bonding area between the adhesive and the surface being bonded, improving the adhesive’s ability to penetrate that surface and thus enhancing the adhesion strength. It is recommended to use a high-power, low-speed angle grinder in combination with tungsten carbide grinding discs for polishing tasks; this approach ensures a proper polishing speed while also helping to prevent rubber aging during the polishing process. Step 2: Clean the area to be polished. The surface after polishing contains a lot of dirt, dust, grease, water, rust, and other organic or inorganic contaminants, which affect the wetting of the adhesive. A cleaner is needed to remove surface dirt and thoroughly clean the entire surface of the belt, in order to prevent various impurities from affecting the adhesion of the glue. When applying the cleaning agent, if one application is not sufficient for thorough cleaning, it can be applied several more times, repeating the process until the surface of the belt is clean and free of impurities. Step 3: Filling of the damaged area. When carrying out patching for belt holes, workers can use rapid-low-temperature self-vulcanizing rubber repair materials; the adhesive sets within 1 minute. In an environment of 21 degrees Celsius, such repair materials fully cure within 2 hours. At that point, the repaired area can be sanded to ensure that its surface is level with the original surface.
