Our facility uses natural gas burners to heat high-temperature heat transfer oil, which is raised to around 350°C to serve as a heat medium. Since the heat transfer oil serves as a common thermal medium system, it is practically impossible to add new oil while the system is shut down. We would like to consult experts on how to add new oil during the operation of the heat transfer oil system. How exactly do I do it?
Use the oil pump in the oil return tank to refill the heat transfer oil system with new oil, and pay close attention to the liquid levels in the expansion tank and the mixing tank.

Slowly add the new oil to the expansion tank in small batches. Do not add too much at one time. Pay attention to any fluctuations in the liquid level and any unusual noises within the expansion tank. Before each addition, ensure that the liquid level is stable and there are no abnormal sounds.
Start the oil injection pump to slowly inject the heat transfer oil stored in the oil reservoir into the expansion tank through the pump. Since the oil added contains water, it is recommended to degas the added heat transfer oil to ensure stable operation of the system.

The new oil you added is much less than the old oil, so there’s no need to worry about degassing or dehydration; it has little impact on the system
In cases where the amount of oil to be replenished isn’t very large, it’s sufficient to vent air through the expansion pipe and expansion tank as usual. Generally, when there’s water present in the heat transfer oil, the liquid level in the expansion tank fluctuates, resulting in convection; meanwhile, the temperature of the heat transfer oil within the tank also rises. At this point, the vent valve at the top of the expansion tank can be opened to release the air. If there’s an auxiliary vent line available, it can also be utilized. Normally, the temperature of the expansion tank doesn’t exceed 70°C.
