Recently, the first unit of the “Taihang 2” pure hydrogen gas turbine developed by AECC has accumulated over 7,000 hours of operation at Shandong Taihe Technology Co., Ltd., while the second unit has also reached over 5,000 hours of operation – this marks a success in the commercial use of 2MW-class pure hydrogen gas turbines. As a clean and environmentally friendly energy source, hydrogen has attracted attention from various industries due to its zero-carbon emission characteristic. Exploring hydrogen gas turbine technology to help achieve the \"dual carbon\" goals has become one of the key directions for green and low-carbon development in the field of gas turbines. Research conducted by the project team at AECC Zhuzhou Company revealed that the domestic chlor-alkali industry generates large amounts of hydrogen during the hydrolysis process. Due to the difficulty in storing this hydrogen and the lack of effective ways to utilize it, hydrogen energy is wasted. Building on the success of using various hydrogen-containing gaseous fuels such as coke oven gas in the \"Taihang 2\" gas turbine generator set, the project team carried out adaptive improvements and upgrades to successfully develop a domestically produced pure hydrogen gas turbine. “The Taihang 2” pure hydrogen gas turbine has a designed power output of 2 MW. It features entirely independent intellectual property rights, a compact design, high thermal efficiency, simple maintenance requirements, and good stability. It can generate 16 million kWh of electricity per year, sufficient to meet the electrical needs of factories during normal operations. “The Taihang 2 hydrogen-only gas turbine unit has been operating continuously and stably, demonstrating fully CAE’s capability to overcome the key technical challenges associated with hydrogen fuel utilization, thanks to its advantages in aeroengine technology. The operational data and technical expertise obtained from this unit will provide strong support for optimizing the use of domestic gas turbines in hydrogen-based power generation.
