Recently, the rotary granulator for ball-shaped calcium chloride dihydrate, constructed by Shandong Tianli Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Tianli Energy”), for a certain group company in Zhejiang, was successfully installed. This project involves upgrading the existing 25,000 tons per year calcium chloride dihydrate production facility into one that produces calcium chloride dihydrate in spherical form. The old facility in the area where the previous dihydrate production unit was located is demolished, and a new unit for producing spherical calcium chloride dihydrate is built, thereby allowing the product to be upgraded to a version that offers greater economic advantages. Tianli Energy has overcome the limitations of traditional processes by independently developing a rotary granulation process for high-concentration (69%) calcium chloride solutions. This process benefits from the high operational stability of rotary equipment, and through the combined action of spray granulation and drying, it can directly produce spherical calcium chloride dihydrate. The dihydrate spherical calcium chloride produced using this process offers advantages over dihydrate flaky calcium chloride manufactured through the traditional slicing process, including lower energy consumption per ton of product, longer system operation cycles, a better working environment, and a higher final selling price. Since 2020, Tianli Energy has begun research and development on a process using the rotary granulation method to produce spherical calcium chloride dihydrate. After two years of intensive research and development, the project team utilized its own laboratory to carry out process simulations, pilot tests, and scale-up trials. Starting in 2022, they successfully completed the first and second phases of the \"80,000 tons per year spherical calcium chloride dihydrate production project\" at Shandong Haihua, with both phases achieving their intended production targets successfully. The first phase of this project passed the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation in September 2023, and was recognized as being at the international leading level for facilities of its type ; In November of the same year, it was awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress for the 2021–2023 period by the China Soda Ash Industry Association. The innovative process for producing spherical calcium chloride dihydrate via rotary granulation has achieved significant economic benefits in practice, indicating broad prospects for application in the industry. As another successfully implemented project in the industry that uses the rotary granulation method to produce spherical calcium chloride dihydrate, this process offers significant advantages in terms of energy savings and reduced consumption, as well as improved product quality; it has earned high recognition from customers. Moreover, it serves as a model for the green transformation and high-quality development of the traditional calcium chloride industry.
