I would like to ask everyone: since the medium flowing in the shell side of the heat exchanger is nitro-o-xylene, and the container is considered a non-standard type, can welding method (a) be used for connecting the cylinder and the tube sheet, or should welding method (b) be employed? Can flanges on the tube box be of the plate type, without requiring any reinforcement?
Due to the hazards associated with the medium, it is recommended to use type B; this design allows for non-destructive testing, and the quality of welding can be easily ensured
In design, safety must come first, with careful consideration. It’s hard to say about the manufacturing quality at the moment.

Plate-type pipe flanges are rarely used in the chemical industry; WN and SW are basically used instead
Depending on the properties of the medium, it is recommended to use gasketed flanges; therefore, type B flanges should be used at minimum. Plate flanges can be manufactured from plates, and note that if the thickness is greater than 50 mm, they must be used in the normalized state. If butt-weld flanges are used, forgings must be employed. Forgings are required for both WN and SO type pipe flanges.
These days, gaskets are all made of metal-wound gaskets; that’s what’s used for flanges. Can plate-type Type B flanges or forged parts be used?
