The sealing surface of the WN3”-300 RF flange has been damaged; the depth of the damage is 4 mm, and the radial projection dimension exceeds the allowable limits. The on-site AI is aware of this issue. Is it possible to repair the flange sealing surface? Are there any guidelines for doing so? Please help!
First carry out patch welding, then machine it with a lathe; we have done this before as well, and there’s no specific basis for it

The common method is patch welding + flaw detection.
Only patch welding is possible; otherwise, there will be problems with sealing. The reason for this is that there are requirements regarding the roughness of the sealing surface.
After patch welding, machining is carried out, followed by PT testing to prevent cracks, as flanges are mostly forged parts that require heat treatment upon leaving the factory

Under normal circumstances, after purchasing standard components, proper protection for the finished products should be ensured; the sealing surfaces of flanges should also be protected from damage through measures such as plastic covers.
