In the interpretation of the standard JB/T 4712.4-2007 \"Container Supports – Part 4: Support-Type Supports\", it is stated that 3.5 Calculation method for load limits of support-type supports: This part of JB/T 4712 takes into account the local stresses generated by support-type supports on the head, in order to prevent failure of the head due to the vertical reaction forces exerted by the supports. For Type A supports, the structure of the shims is strictly specified to improve local stress. For Type B supports, Appendix B provides the allowable vertical load determined by the allowable stress limit of the head material, to assist designers in selecting the appropriate support model. --------------------Does that mean that when using a supported Type A support, there is no need to consider the local stress on the lower head? If a vertical storage tank is being constructed using support type A supports, when designing the lower head, is it sufficient to consider only the internal pressure strength, without needing to take into account local instability?
Comparing the allowable loads of supports types A and B, that of type A is much lower, so it can be disregarded. If you feel uneasy, you can calculate the local stress.
