Is the distribution of bolt holes at the mid-span done horizontally or vertically? Where are the specifications that specify this?

This post was last edited by wanlirn on 2018-4-23 at 11:49. The number of screw holes is always a multiple of 4; the centerlines of the horizontal and vertical lines are all the same. I’ve seen flanges designed by amateurs with 9 holes, and that’s quite awkward

The book by Wang Fei mentioned in that link is also incorrect and incomplete regarding this issue; I already explained this clearly in another similar post at the beginning of the year. As for the claim in the link that the mid-span position of the foundation bolts corresponds to the main wind direction, that view stems from a failure to understand the difference between the safety factors for foundation bolts and those for flange bolts – their modes of failure are completely different, and it’s not possible for the foundation bolts to be affected based on the wind direction at the mid-span
Agree with the view from Floor 5; foundation bolts cannot be placed across the mid-span following the wind direction – uniform distribution around the circumference is sufficient
On the container, the center lines of the horizontal and vertical lines are identical
