Recently, the mechanical seals of the glass-lined reactors used by the company (double-end face mechanical seals) have been experiencing oil leakage issues, with internal leakage being the most severe. In some cases, it was possible to determine that the static ring had been damaged, and this damage occurred near the location of the positioning pins. So I would like to ask some questions to the seniors. 1. Is there room for improvement in the silicon carbide used in the static ring of double-faced mechanical seals? 2. Should the mixing be started when adding the materials, and at what amount of material addition is it appropriate to start it? 3. Is it necessary to stop stirring when adding solid materials until they dissolve? Is the same true for powdered materials?
For mechanical seals, proper installation is very important. What kind of rack is it? Standard or extended?
The rack should be fine; it’s standard
There are many possible causes for problems with machine seals: installation issues, precision problems with mixing, quality defects in the seals themselves, and choices related to the sealing materials. The order of adding materials should follow the process requirements.
Here, I generally don’t use regular racks at the moment; only extended racks are used. Or, add another pivot point below the mechanical seal. Otherwise, the lower shaft is too long, and the two support points on the frame are too close together. It will affect the service life of the mechanical seal.
How is it possible to add a support point at the lower part of a mechanical seal? Is the frame equipped with a double-pivot LSJ?
For the frame, it is best to use a two-support design. If a single pivot is used, an additional stuffing box is added on the inner side of the upper flange. Otherwise, the lower shaft will be too long, resulting in large swings, and the mechanical seal will inevitably fail.
I never thought of using the stuffing box as a pivot point – can a stuffing box really serve as a pivot?
We are a professional manufacturer of glass-lined equipment, and we often encounter problems with double-end face seals. Generally, we do not use a two-support frame. The installation space issue for double-end face seals requires an extended frame. The pressure inside the glass-lined equipment tanks is never very high. However, it needs to be fired in a furnace due to significant deformation and poor flatness at the flange seal area. Various aspects need to be taken into account during installation. It is most important to choose products from reputable manufacturers. It’s a bit more expensive, but it’s reliable to use. Choose low-cost, inferior products. Problems will keep arising, making you doubt that this part isn’t good or that aspect is inadequate. There’s actually only one reason: the price you offer allows you to buy only such products.
