For those that require a leak test, the leak test should be conducted after the hydrostatic test; the leak test cannot be omitted ; For strength tests using gas, after the pressure is increased to the strength test pressure and the test is successful, the pressure can be reduced to the airtightness test pressure to check for airtightness.
It depends on whether your requirements for the leakage rate of high-pressure containers are strict; if they are, then a gas-tightness test is definitely necessary
Why wait until the strength test is successful before reducing the pressure to the level required for the airtightness test? During the airtightness test, the pressure must already be reduced to the design value and held at that level for a sufficient amount of time; therefore, whether it is a hydraulic test or an airtightness test, the sealing performance is checked throughout the testing process. If a pressure test has been conducted, it is meaningless to carry out a leak test using the same gas. The code stipulates that it should be indicated on the design drawings whether a container that has undergone a pressure test needs to undergo a leak test as well.
For pressure vessels that contain media with an extremely high or high toxicity level, or those for which minor leaks are not permitted according to the design, leakage tests must be conducted; therefore, it depends on the design requirements
In cases where high leakage rates are required, pressure vessels must undergo integrity tests, and this applies not only to high-pressure vessels.
