Can A302 be used to weld Q245R steel plates together? If that were possible, what problems would arise?
Does a post really take so long to get approved?
Sure, it can be used~ There’s no problem with that, but it’s too costly; 302 is really expensive

This is generally not used for compressed components. There are generally principles for selecting welding materials, as well as welding procedure qualifications.
It works fine in actual use; the issue is cost. There are regulations stating that carbon steel and low-alloy steel can be welded using high-chromium-nickel welding materials.
In terms of mechanical properties, it can be used as long as the welding procedure qualification is successful. However, the actual medium in use also needs to be taken into consideration; in some media, stainless steel is not superior to low-alloy steel.
For welding Q245R steel plates, J427 electrodes are generally used, while A302 electrodes are typically employed for welding two different types of steel together, namely Q245R and S30408 stainless steel.
