When implementing petrochemical projects in the Philippine region, regarding the selection of insulation materials, I would appreciate it if experts could tell me if there are any issues with such a choice
Aluminum silicate and rock wool both belong to traditional soft fiber materials; they provide decent insulation performance below 150 degrees Celsius. However, such soft fiber materials are not durable – problems such as bulging and collapse usually occur after about three to five years. In the insulation industry, calcium silicate and perlite are now recommended as insulation materials. Yet, most companies and general contractors do not choose calcium silicate, as they do not take into account the energy consumption costs associated with its use. If, in the long run, calcium silicate is still the better choice, don’t underestimate the impact of even a few degrees drop in temperature – it can save hundreds of thousands in energy costs over the course of a year.
No problem; use rock wool for low temperatures and silicates for high temperatures. It’s just that rock wool isn’t used much these days; glass wool is generally used instead. Is aluminum silicate considered a type of silicate as well? I’m also looking for an answer to this question.
It seems that the production of rock wool is now prohibited; we use glass fiber wool as a substitute. Could you explain the differences between these materials?
