Our company is an oil field engineering design firm. At present, for pressure vessel design, only pressure vessels of grades D1 and D2 can be designed (the certification has not been renewed). I would like to ask whether it is possible to design spherical tanks as well This spherical tank is a fake one used as a training facility; it is open-top and operates at atmospheric pressure. Is a design qualification specific to spherical tanks required to design it, or should it be designed as a standard atmospheric-pressure device?

I might not have explained it clearly; it’s essentially a spherical tank, but it’s not designed to bear pressure. Is it possible to design one like that?
Pressure vessel design requires certification, while vessels at atmospheric pressure do not.
If it is made as a teaching model, there is no issue with design qualifications. If it is a “design template” for applying for design qualifications, pressure-bearing design qualifications are required.

I feel the same way. I consulted relevant experts yesterday, and it turns out that whether it’s a spherical tank under normal pressure or under pressure, one must have the appropriate design qualifications to create such tanks.
