I am developing a device for treating VOC gases, but I am facing issues with sealing. Since the operation takes place at 120°C, I have considered fluororubber and inorganic silica gel as potential sealing materials. Fluororubber is quite hard, and under the current conditions it cannot achieve the compression level required for proper sealing. As for inorganic silica gel, I have not conducted any tests on it yet. I would appreciate advice from those with more experience: can inorganic silica gel withstand VOC gases? Are there any other rubber materials that can resist VOC gases at 120°C?
Are there elastic and soft gaskets made of ceramic fibers? I checked it, and it seems similar to asbestos-free gaskets – it’s too hard and doesn’t have the compressive elasticity of rubber

If the VOC temperature does not exceed 200 degrees, it is recommended to use expanded PTFE tape – it is heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant, as well as easy to install. We use this material on all our RTO ducts
It’s a good choice. However, given that the equipment on my end needs to be disassembled frequently, the PTFE seal has to be replaced each time it’s removed, which is quite troublesome
If disassembly is frequent, there is no better material than this one; it can still remain sealed even after being disassembled several times. (The RTO inspection doors use this material.) Gaskets made of other materials become useless once they are disassembled
Oh, that’s great. I’d like to ask further: if this expanded PTFE is used as a flat gasket, can it be removed frequently without the need for replacement?
It can be disassembled several times and reused; it needs to be replaced after too many uses. The price of this padding is based on weight, and it’s not expensive
