Our project involves gas fields with high sulfur content; the quick-opening blind flanges used in the raw gas filtration and separation units at the gas gathering stations employ lip seals made of nitrile rubber. The operating pressure is 8.0 MPa. Recently, bulging of the seal rings occurred, which eventually led to the rupture of the gaskets and substantial leaks. Could any senior member give some guidance? 1. Why is a lip seal chosen here, and why not gaskets of other types such as elliptical gaskets? 2. Are there any relevant design standards for lip seals? Urgently need it online, thank you very much.

O-rings or other types of seals should be used on the blind plate; lip seals are not very suitable for such conditions……

I also know that lip seals are mostly used on rotating shafts, but this is a purification plant, and there are many similar purification plants; lip seals are generally employed in equipment of this type. The types of static seals are numerous and varied; the choice must be made based on specific components, functions, the medium involved, the direction of pressure, as well as the manufacturing complexity associated with the sealing area. c. There are generally standards to follow, but these standards only define the dimensions related to installation; they do not specify any particular process or require a certain type of seal to be used. d. The dimensions of the installation grooves generally need to comply with DIN/ISO7425/1, ISO 5597 Part 2, ISO3771, MIL5514F, AS 586A, BS 1806, DIN3852\DIN3869\ISO11926\ISO9974\ISO1179 (these standards do not have to be followed all at once)
