Dear seniors: The client requires 100% RT inspection for the butt welds between the tube sheet and the cylinder. The radiography technicians say it’s not possible to perform such inspections, and after checking online, it was stated that proper patching may not be feasible. I would like to ask everyone, is the method shown in the figure below feasible?
Is this question too stupid? No one wants to answer it?
It’s a good idea; we’ll see how it works in practice. It’s a bit troublesome for the inspection personnel to operate it. It is generally 100% UT + 100% PT / (100% PTMT)
Personally, I think that for the butt welds between the tube sheet and the cylinder, RT does not yield satisfactory results; therefore, recorded ultrasonic testing along with 100% magnetic particle testing is necessary
If there are no large openings, then how do you arrange the sheets? And if the large openings are at a certain distance from the tube sheet, with the edge being more than 200 units away from the tube sheet, how do you get the sheets into place? This method can be used if and only if the opening is greater than 250 and the distance from the edge to the tube sheet is less than 50. Finally, the slice size must match the dimensions inside the film bag, which raises the issue that using steel bars to pack it can easily damage the film bag.
Doing this requires a great deal of manpower and resources, and it won’t yield good results.
The RT test for the butt weld between the fixed tube sheet and the cylinder should be carried out before the cooling tubes are installed, right? I’m just an amateur, you know.
It’s not actionable! Generally, the distance between the cylinder, the heat exchange tubes, and the baffle plates is very small. Coupled with the deformation of the tube bundle, it’s even impossible to insert that steel strip there; how can you fit a plate in then, especially since the plate sleeves are so thick?
No matter how well something is theorized, you’ll find out once you put it into practice; it’s still necessary to base things on actual circumstances
