Hello everyone, please look at the diagram: How should the strength of the legs in the diagram be calculated? Can the calculation for the ear-type supports be carried out by selecting from standard options or by using standard formulas? What’s different? Thank you.
Ear-type supports are calculated according to normal ear seats. The legs are calculated according to GB50017-2017

When designing this structure, the ear seats are calculated according to standards, while the support legs are selected directly based on the recommended values (from the \"Handbook of Chemical Equipment Design – Materials and Components\"). Of course, the distance from the intermediate support point to the bottom of the channel steel support legs must meet the recommended values. If the limits are exceeded, this structure will not be used, mainly because it is difficult to determine the stiffness of the channel steel legs; although their strength is satisfactory, they may cause the equipment to vibrate.
The structural engineering field has software, which allows them to do calculations quickly.
Load on the supports: The combined force of the heat exchanger’s weight and the bending moment resulting from that weight is less than the allowable stress of the material at operating temperature; stability is checked using the formula for column instability, while local pressures are determined in accordance with the steel structure design code GN50017
