What are the materials for the tube side and shell side of the heat exchanger? What are the design pressure, temperature, and the types of media generally used in the tube side and shell side? Is there a possibility of intergranular corrosion caused by chloride ions? Check whether the cracks are mainly in the straight pipe section; are there any cracks in the coiled pipe section? What is the temperature difference during operation in the shell and tube sides of a heat exchanger? Should a metallographic analysis be done if possible?
The cracks are mainly found in the straight pipe sections; it is necessary to investigate the reasons from a process perspective to determine whether severe fluctuations in pressure or temperature during operation caused the cracking. :lol
Because the possibility caused by scaling is very high. It is caused by local temperature changes; I’m not sure about the temperatures of the fluids in the tube side and the shell side.
