The design requirements for the bottom plate of a 10,000 m³ tank specify that grooves should be made in the ring wall at the junction of the edge plates and the gussets, with these gussets being fitted into those grooves to ensure good contact between the foundation slab and the edge plates. Has anyone done this before? It should be fine if no grooves are made. Here, the base ring wall is at the same level as the asphalt sand cushion; the asphalt sand layer might be slightly higher. After the edge panels are installed, they are already at the same level as the base ring wall and in contact with it. Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary to create any more grooves. I’d like to ask for everyone’s opinions
I’ve worked on storage tanks with capacities of 10,000 cubic meters to 50,000 cubic meters and haven’t encountered this problem; the designers are overthinking it. The thickness of the gasket used for joining the bottom plates is only 4-6 mm, and under the effect of gravity, the flat steel gasket as well as the asphalt will settle
The designer doesn’t understand foundation construction; if the base slab is already in good contact with the asphalt sand cushion, why create any grooves?
Once the medium is filled in, both the base and the bottom plate will deform; there’s no need for that – it’s not a precision device after all
It’s likely that, out of design considerations to prevent excessive deformation after filling with water, they wanted to embed flat steel bars in the foundation to avoid large deformations that could cause the edge panels to lift up, right?
