For equipment using the low-temperature material 09MnNiDR, can stainless steel be used if there are no chloride ions? The cost of this low-temperature material is high, and its manufacturing also requires many specifications. Why not choose stainless steel directly?
09MnNiDR is subjected to normalizing or normalizing plus tempering, as well as quenching plus tempering, and tested for low-temperature impact at -70 degrees Celsius. Generally, stainless steel is not subjected to such processing, so its performance at low temperatures is not guaranteed.
Stainless steel can be used; relatively speaking, stainless steel is a bit more expensive. You can estimate the weight of a device made from these two materials, then inquire about the price per unit of steel and make a comparison. Generally, when the thickness is less than 12 mm, the costs of the two materials are roughly similar; the greater the thickness of the steel plate required, the higher the cost of using stainless steel. .
Of course, stainless steel can be used; if a small amount of the material is required, stainless steel should be considered first. However, when a larger amount is needed, low-alloy low-temperature steel is a more suitable choice.

09MnNiDR is around 6500; stainless steel starts at 1W, and low-temperature steel is cheaper when used in large quantities

Stainless steel only develops cold brittleness below -196 degrees, so there is no need to conduct these complicated tests; It’s all written in the standards – is there still no guarantee? Are you an expert in this field? It’s mainly a cost issue

It is technically feasible; a comprehensive consideration of technical, economic, and material procurement aspects is required.
Industry experts: Why are devices made of the low-temperature material 09MnNiDR chosen? And in what applications is this 09MnNiDR material used? I seek the master’s guidance.
This post was last edited by wanlirn on 2020-7-10 at 11:50; mainly because 09MnNiDR is cheaper than stainless steel; The price per ton for 09MnNiDR ranges from 12,000 to 15,000. The cost of raw material for stainless steel 304 starts at 13,500, and you still manage to sell it for at least 23,000 – goes without saying ;
