Dear experts in this forum, there is a storage tank that was put into use in 2004; we have the drawings, as well as inspection reports on the thickness of the tank’s top, walls, and bottom, along with records of foundation settlement. Now, the storage medium needs to be replaced. What standard should be used to determine whether the foundation settlement is acceptable? Could everyone please give some advice? Thank you.
Foundation settlement tests are only conducted for newly built storage tanks. Reused storage tanks generally do not require foundation settlement tests again, but it is necessary to calculate the storage capacity for the new medium (specific gravity) based on the original designed foundation load-bearing capacity.
Should the deformation of the foundation be taken into consideration?
By comparing the density ratios of the medium before and after, if the ratio is not higher than that of the previous medium, the tank can be filled to capacity; if the ratio is higher, the maximum load capacity is calculated.
