Our company manufactures heat exchangers with relatively small volumes. Previously, pressure testing was carried out using nitrogen in bottles at 14 MPa. Is it feasible to switch to using compressed air for pressure testing without having to add additional storage tanks? The maximum test pressure for the products of our company does not exceed 4 MPa. I see that many compressors come equipped with two or one storage cylinder; I was wondering whether it would be feasible to use those instead of a dedicated storage tank.
There should be no problem; for the pneumatic testing of pipes at the construction site, there are no storage tanks involved, and an air compressor is used directly

If the capacity is not large, it is best to conduct a water pressure test; such high pressures still require a water pressure test for safety. If a compressor is used, the cost of such a high-pressure compressor needs to be taken into consideration. For reference.
I agree with the opinion above – water pressure testing is much safer than using compressed air, and minor leaks are easier to detect.
This post was last edited by zjq1962 on 2020-12-20 at 11:45. Why not? Gases are compressible; using a compressor, the pressure doesn’t increase very quickly. Increase the pressure in steps according to the requirements, and take proper safety measures.
