When should male and female flanges be used for container flanges and pipe flanges?
The appendix on page P491 of the six-in-one manual provides guidance on selecting the type of pipe flange and vessel flange as well as the sealing surface, based on the medium, pressure, and temperature.
At present, for domestic standard designs, concave-convex surfaces may be required for media that pose an extremely high level of hazard. In other cases, a convex surface is generally sufficient. These days, in most cases, it mainly involves determining the flange type, as well as selecting the gaskets and fasteners. The requirements for the sealing surface are instead becoming weaker.
In fact, sometimes when dealing with materials that are flammable, explosive, or pose poisoning risks, RF is also useful, rather than textured surfaces.
Agreed, most drawings have this as well.
For PN40 and above, a ribbed surface is used. The reason is that the valve surfaces of valves manufactured by valve factories (taking globe valves as an example) have a uneven structure.
Flammable and explosive media, PN100 or class 600 and below, use RF； The above is in RJ. Perhaps MFM should be used instead of RF for LPG; I haven’t worked with toxic media before.

According to the sealing principles, the type of flange sealing surface has little impact on the sealing performance; rather, sealing reliability is more closely related to the choice of gasket. Therefore, we select the type of sealing surface based on the unified requirements of the project. 10MPa hydrogen compressors all use RF faces.
