Question: When performing pressure tests on propane storage tanks and propylene storage tanks, in addition to requiring that the pressure of the compressed air meet the specified requirements, are there any requirements regarding the purity of the compressed air? In particular, are there any specifications regarding the oil content in the air? Is it required that the equipment for providing compressed air be an oil-free air compressor? Or will a oil-injected screw air compressor suffice?
It depends on what kind of compressor you use. If an oil-lubricated compressor is used, the compressed air produced will contain contaminants from the lubricating oil. If the compressor you are using is an oil-free lubricated compressor, no lubricating oil is injected during the compression process, and the air output will not be contaminated by lubricating oil.
