On August 6, 2023, Announcement No. 7 of that year issued 431 recommended **standards and 2 **standard amendment documents, including several standards related to the pressure vessel industry such as GB/T 713.1~7-2023 \"Steel plates and strips for pressure equipment\" and GB/T 25198-2023 \"Headings for pressure vessels\". —— The new GB 713 “****” GB/T 713.1–7-2023 \"Steel plates and strips for pressure equipment\" replaces the existing standards for carbon steel and low-alloy steel used in pressure vessels, C-Mn low-temperature steel, Ni-based low-temperature steel, high-manganese steel, quenched and tempered high-strength steel, and stainless steel. The new standard will come into effect on March 1st next year, officially replacing existing standards such as GB/T 713-2014 and GB/T 24511-2017. Some time ago, multiple searches on the “National Standard Information Public Service Platform” showed that the new GB/T 25198 had been in the “draft for comment” stage for a long time; it seemed like its release was facing difficulties, but it has now finally been published. See: Difficulties in formulating new head standards? | Standards now also require limits on the ferrite content in austenitic stainless steel heads — The official release of the new GB/T 713, a fundamental standard for pressure vessel materials, is also beneficial for the new 150 standards as well as the new analysis and design standards. “According to the queries on the National Standard Information Public Service Platform, the new GB/T150 and the new analysis and design standards are currently in the stages of \"seeking public comments\" and \"under review\", respectively. In the previous draft versions of the new GB/T150.2 and new GB/T713.5, the grades for high-manganese steel were different. —— As mentioned before, when looking at the draft versions of the new GB/T150.4 and new 25198, there are discrepancies in their provisions regarding austenitic stainless steel heads and the heat treatment of such heads. It’s not clear what will happen in the end; it’s possible that these differences could lead to further disputes that will persist for years.
The new GB/T 713 series of standards are related to steel plates and strips for pressure-bearing equipment; they unify the existing standards for carbon steel, low-alloy steel for pressure vessels, C-Mn low-temperature steel, Ni-based low-temperature steel, high-manganese steel, quenched and tempered high-strength steel, and stainless steel. These series of standards will come into effect officially on March 1 next year, replacing the existing multiple standards, and hold great significance for the pressure vessel industry. As for the new head standard GB/T 25198, it was finally officially released after a period of soliciting opinions. This standard stipulates provisions regarding limiting the ferrite content in austenitic stainless steel heads, among other things. The release of the new standard is also good news for the fundamental standards regarding pressure vessel materials. The new GB/T 150 and the new analysis design standards are currently in the stage of soliciting opinions and review. In the previous draft for comments, there were inconsistencies between the high-manganese steel grades specified in the new GB/T 150.2 and the new GB/T 713.5. In the draft versions of the new GB/T150.4 and new 25198, there are also inconsistencies in the regulations regarding austenitic stainless steel heads and the heat treatment of such heads.
