From July 16th to 17th, the 450,000-ton/year polypropylene loop reactor for the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene production project at Dushanzi Petrochemical in Tarim, manufactured by Maoming Gravity Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd., was installed on-site through modular assembly. This is the first large-scale loop reactor in China to adopt independently developed technology by PetroChina, featuring overall modular design, manufacturing, and lifting. The Tarim 1.2 million tons per year Phase II ethylene project is a key initiative for China National Petroleum Corporation to implement its energy strategy and advance the upgrading of the petrochemical industry; it also serves as a model project for the \"Six Modernizations Initiative\". Among them, the loop reactor of the 450,000 tons per year polypropylene plant serves as a key equipment, bearing the important mission of achieving technological breakthroughs in this industry. This ring-tube reactor utilizes a process package independently developed by CNPC and China National Petroleum Engineering Corporation. Each unit consists of 4 straight legs, a top elbow, connecting beams, and connecting pipes; the straight legs are made up of an inner tube and a jacket, and they form a unified structure through multiple layers of H-shaped steel connecting beams. Its lifting weight is nearly 400 tons, placing it among the largest in terms of scale and technical complexity in the industry. As the equipment manufacturer, Maoming Gravity is fully aware of the great significance of this project. Faced with multiple challenges such as tight deadlines and complex equipment structures, the company formed a task force; all employees worked overtime to innovate the workpiece handling process. By managing the entire workflow from pipe insertion to pressure testing, the project was completed with high quality and on schedule. All straight-leg components were shipped on May 30, setting a new benchmark for the manufacture of loop reactor systems. After the equipment was manufactured, it was transported over a distance of more than 5,000 kilometers from Maoming to the Tarim project site, where it arrived successfully. This journey enabled a meeting between the equipment and the project team, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent lifting operations. To achieve the goal of \"maximum modular lifting,\" Maoming Gravity collaborated with companies such as Dushanzi Petrochemical and China Global Engineering to conduct joint research. Through full-scale modeling and precise calculations, an innovative modular construction method was developed: fixed supports are installed on the ground, and the various components of the reactor, accessories, insulation systems, as well as items like ladders, platforms, and guardrails, are integrated into the main structure to form a single modular unit.
