The design pressure of the tower is 0.2 MPa, and its diameter is 3400 mm. The lower head of the tower is placed directly on the ground, without a skirt; the base plate serves both as a head and as the foundation plate for the skirt, with connection bolts used to secure it. How should the base plate be calculated in this case?
The design and verification of the base plate require consideration of at least the following aspects: 1. Thickness calculation: Based on the pressure exerted on the head (0.2 MPa) and the diameter of the tower (3400 mm), the required minimum thickness is calculated using the design standards for pressure vessels (such as GB150 or ASME VIII, etc.). Factors such as the mechanical properties of the material, operating temperature, and allowable stress need to be considered. 2. Load capacity calculation: Since the base plate serves both as a cover and as a foundation plate, it is necessary to verify that its structural strength is sufficient to withstand the weight of the tower itself, the loads generated by internal operating pressures, as well as any additional external loads such as the weight of personnel or equipment. 3. Connection method between the base plate and the floor: It is necessary to determine the method of connecting the base plate to the concrete floor as well as the requirements for bolt connections. This includes the size, quantity, and arrangement of bolts, as well as the design of the corresponding anchor bolt embedments. 4. Bolt stress calculation: For the bolts that connect the base plate to the ground, stress analysis is required to ensure that the strength and stiffness of these bolts meet the design requirements. 5. Local reinforcement of the deck: If calculations show that the deck may have insufficient strength or excessive deformation in certain areas, local reinforcement may be required. 6. Requirements for the installation and welding of the bottom plate: The welding requirements between the bottom plate and the tower wall must be taken into account to ensure that the quality of the welds meets the relevant standards for pressure vessels. Taking all the above factors into account, designers should use appropriate calculation methods and software, in conjunction with relevant design standards, to carry out the design and calculation of the base plate. In actual design, it is also necessary to consider the feasibility of manufacturing and construction, as well as safety and cost-effectiveness. .
Given that the stress is not high, my personal opinion is as follows: 1. When a flat cover is used as a head, no calculations are necessary, as the deformation of the head is restricted by the foundation and bending does not occur. The calculation method for 150 is primarily used to verify the bending stress of the flat cover; if calculations are done based on the flat cover, it will definitely be safe, though the results will be relatively conservative. 2. When used as a base ring plate, follow the calculation method for SW6 towers by treating the flat cover as the base ring plate and entering the dimensions for calculation; of course, in this case it is necessary to enter the hypothetical lower head and skirt cylinder. In such a case, to perform an accurate calculation, stress analysis is the only option.
