On November 22nd, the complete module of the No. 7 cracking furnace for the 1.2 million tons per year ethylene production facility in the Guangxi Petrochemical Project, which was constructed under EPC contract by Huanqiu Company, was successfully transported and installed. This represents China National Petroleum Corporation’s first complete cracking furnace module for an ethylene production facility. The complete module for Reactor No. 7 was designed and purchased by Global Beijing Company, with modular construction carried out by Global Sixth Construction Company. The module is 38 meters long, 17 meters wide, and 80 meters high, with a total weight of 3,200 tons. It consists of a radiation section, a convection section, a quenching system, ladder platforms, and safety platforms. The module had its radiation section fully constructed at the 100-mu prefabrication site on July 2; phase two of modular construction began upon its arrival there. The installation of the convection section modules, the primary air cooler, the smoke collectors, the flues, and the 8 exterior frame modules took a total of 58 days. During construction, the project team employed deep modular construction techniques, carrying out the lifting of flow section modules and the installation of the external framework simultaneously. This method allows for precise construction control, high efficiency, good quality, and a short construction period; it also helps to reduce cross-tasking and work at heights on site, accelerating the construction progress and enhancing safety levels. Transporting the module requires two large-angle turns; the slope of the road surface along the route is 1%. Coupled with its heavy weight and high center of gravity, these factors pose significant challenges to getting the module into place. To this end, the project team held an expert consultation meeting to discuss in depth with Guangxi Petrochemical Company and the transportation company the technical challenges and safety risks that may arise during the module transportation and installation process. The transportation plan was continuously improved, and construction measures were adjusted based on the experts’ recommendations. Through repeated calculations and verifications, the project team ultimately adopted a pallet-based reinforcement method and optimized the SPMT placement strategy to effectively prevent structural deformation during the transportation of the pyrolyzer. At the same time, personnel are organized to clean the roads, and methods such as replacement filling and laying of road substrates are used to improve the road’s load-bearing capacity, ensuring safe and reliable transportation. The total weight of furnace No. 7 when transported as a whole is 3,200 tons, which is equivalent to the combined empty weight of 13 of the world’s largest wide-body aircraft, the A380. As China National Petroleum Corporation’s first complete ethylene cracking furnace module, the construction of Cracking Furnace No. 7 established a complete process for the modular design and construction of cracking furnaces, providing valuable experience for the modular construction of ethylene plants at China National Petroleum Corporation in the future.
