An analysis of the steps and required documents for obtaining ASME certification for pressure equipment in the U.S. market: As global trade integration accelerates, an increasing number of Chinese pressure equipment manufacturers are targeting the U.S. market. However, to enter the North American market, ASME certification is an essential pass. ASME certification, namely the certification issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, is one of the most authoritative international certifications in the field of pressure equipment. To obtain ASME certification, it is first necessary to establish a comprehensive quality assurance system. Manufacturers must prepare a quality manual that includes design controls, material management, process specifications, inspection procedures, etc., in accordance with the requirements of Volume VIII of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. This system requires comprehensive quality control throughout the entire process, from raw material procurement to product delivery. Next, the company needs to prepare the documents required for certification application, which mainly include proof of the company’s qualifications, a quality manual, design calculations, records of welding procedure qualification, and credentials of the personnel responsible for non-destructive testing. These documents must be in a bilingual Chinese-English version and fully comply with ASME code requirements. The third key step is to apply to an ASME-approved inspection agency for a joint inspection. During the inspection, the ASME authorized representative will conduct an on-site review of the company’s quality system operations, including observing the product manufacturing process, examining quality records, and verifying the qualifications of technical personnel. Only after passing the joint inspection can a company obtain an ASME certification. It is worth noting that maintaining the validity of the certification is equally important. Companies need to undergo annual ASME audits and renew their certificates every three years. At the same time, it is necessary to pay close attention to the latest updates of ASME codes, and adjust the quality system and manufacturing processes in a timely manner. Achieving ASME certification not only means that the product is qualified to enter the U.S. market, but it also proves that the company’s quality management standards meet international requirements. With the further advancement of the Made in China 2025 strategy, mastering ASME certification requirements will become a key factor for pressure equipment manufacturers to enhance their international competitiveness.
