On November 16th, this technique, developed independently by Sinopec Nanjing Engineering Company, was applied on a large scale in Maoming Petrochemical’s projects aimed at upgrading oil refining processes and improving the quality of ethylene production. This marks the first time that this technology has moved from the experimental research stage to actual industrial application in China. This demonstration application covers the entire construction process for 3000 m³ light hydrocarbon spheres and propylene spheres. The project integrates a range of innovations such as the all-position automatic welding process, intelligent welding equipment, specialized welding materials, lean manufacturing techniques for spherical shell plates, spot-weld-free alignment processes, and digital control systems, thereby enabling high-quality automatic welding on the complex curved surfaces of spherical tanks. This technical system covers key aspects such as design, manufacturing, construction, and welding materials, with many of the technologies being pioneered both domestically and internationally. This engineering practice not only provided important technical support for the construction of key projects under Maoming Petrochemical’s 14th Five-Year Plan, but also opened up new pathways for the development of China’s energy and chemical equipment manufacturing industry toward intelligence and higher quality.
