According to Sinochem New Network, on November 12, Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. held a contract signing ceremony and kick-off meeting for the EPC project related to the safety distance adjustments at the Yangjiawan Station, in collaboration with Yanchang Petroleum Refining & Chemical Company, its natural gas subsidiary, and the French company GTT. This event marked the official launch of the first film-type full-volume tank project at a domestic liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. The LNG processing capacity of the Yangjiawan station owned by the Natural Gas Company under Yanchang Petroleum Refining Company is 200,000 tons per year. To effectively address the issue of insufficient safety protection distances around the LNG storage tanks at Yangjiawan Station, the company plans to invest 182 million yuan in the renovation and expansion of these tanks, including the construction of a new 10,000-cubic-meter full-volume membrane LNG storage tank. The reporter learned that this project utilizes the innovative land-based membrane full-volume tank technology developed by the French company GTT, to replace the traditional metal single-volume storage tanks. At the same storage capacity, thin-wall tanks can reduce the floor space required compared to conventional metal full-volume tanks, while also increasing the net storage volume by about 10% when the inner tank diameter is increased. The steel usage for film-lined tanks is 90% less than that of fully metal tanks, and heat fusion welding technology is employed during construction, resulting in a 24%~27% reduction in overall carbon emissions. At the same time, during operation, the amount of flash vapor (BOG) generated is low, giving it low-carbon and environmentally friendly properties. At the signing ceremony, Xu Jiantao, Party Secretary and Chairman of Beiyou Engineering Company, said that this project serves as a model for Yanchang Petroleum’s refining and chemical division to improve the safety and energy efficiency of its LNG storage and transportation systems. It is also a successful example of how Beiyou Engineering and GTT Company can complement each other’s strengths to expand into new markets. Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance the safety and reliability of storage and transportation systems, providing a model for the renovation of such systems in China’s energy and chemical industry.
