I would like to ask experts: I am dealing with a high-temperature heat exchanger, and Aspen-EDR is being used for its selection and design. The design files are attached (version V9.0). The heat exchanger selected by the calculations is shown as a series of 3 shell-side heat exchangers. What does this mean? Is it difficult to manufacture such a heat exchanger? Are there any better alternatives? Thank you!

You are using verification mode, where all structural parameters can be chosen freely – wasn’t it you who designed the arrangement of 3 heat exchangers in series?
I switched the heat exchanger from design mode to verification mode, and then made adjustments to the heat exchanger in design mode; that’s the result I got! In design mode, there are also heat exchangers with a single tube pass and a single shell pass, but they seem too large and their equipment cost is too high!
Your heat exchanger isn’t that large either – wouldn’t it be more costly to make 3 of them separately rather than just one?
1 Since having 3 units in series seems excessive, change the specifications of the heat exchangers. 2 Moreover, using 3 heat exchangers with a diameter of 600 results in a high pressure drop when connected in series. 3 The calculation program offers various options, and one can also adjust the parameters to obtain satisfactory results
Hello, is the Aspen-EDR tool suitable for the selection and design of plate heat exchangers?
The design temperature is over 450°C, so a plate heat exchanger probably isn’t suitable!
U-tube heat exchangers are generally used for high temperatures; 400 tubes mean 800 ports. The diameter of DN600 isn’t sufficient to accommodate the tubes, which is why 3 units are shown – manufacturing it should still be possible.
