For plate heat exchangers, what is the maximum allowable pressure difference between the hot and cold sides? Is there a relationship between the pressure difference on both sides and the design pressure?
The pressure difference across the two ends of different types of plate heat exchangers varies; those that are detachable have the lowest pressure resistance, those brazed have slightly better resistance, while fully welded and shell-and-tube types offer even better performance.
I just don’t know if the maximum pressure difference can reach the design pressure...
It comes pre-tested with pressure applied to one side! Theoretical maximum pressure difference is the design pressure; the maximum pressure difference during normal operation is generally less than the design pressure
There are many factors that affect the pressure difference; for example, the process flow of the plate exchanger, its diameter, and the design of the plates, as well as the head capacity of the inlet and outlet pumps, can all have an impact on the pressure difference. Putting aside previous external factors, the plate exchanger is manufactured based on single-sided water pressure, with the test pressure being 1.3 times the design pressure; however, special requirements can also be met according to the customer’s specifications. Theoretically, the maximum pressure difference between the hot and cold sides is the design pressure; under normal operation of the system, this maximum pressure difference generally does not exceed the design value.
