The fluid on the shell side of the heat exchanger is the heat medium; it was previously believed that flow should be from bottom to top and out from top, as this made it easier for the shell to become filled. However, someone told me that flow from top to bottom yields better heat transfer. Does anyone know?
With flow from bottom to top, when the medium flow rate is low, a low-temperature dead zone is likely to form at the bottom of the shell side, reducing the heat exchange area.
Do you mean it’s better to go up and down?
Huh, I always thought that for a cooling medium, it enters from below and exits from above, while for a heating medium, it enters from above and exits from below
