There is a small hole on each of the large flanges of the U-tube heat exchanger head and the shell’s large flanges – what is it for? There’s a bit of oil leakage from this small hole on the head now.
It seems that the tube sheet is made of stainless steel, while the flanges of the tube box are made of carbon steel with a lining. This hole serves to detect leaks in the welds of the lining; the oil leakage you mentioned is likely caused by defects in those welds. I hope this helps.
It has leak detection holes in the lining; the welding seams of the lining need to be inspected. This part is probably threaded, right? It’s used for inflation testing
