I have been involved in equipment maintenance and management for nearly 10 years. Overall, it seems that terms like equipment reliability are just different ways of referring to equipment maintenance, repair, and upkeep. However, the management system for these maintenance, repair, and upkeep activities is not very well-developed; the various concepts related to maintenance and repair are rather vague, and their practical implementation is not as good as one might expect. I would like to ask everyone: how is maintenance, repair, and upkeep carried out currently? First, let me introduce the method we are currently using: it focuses on troubleshooting faults. Planned maintenance is very difficult to carry out, and preventive maintenance is even more challenging.
The use, maintenance, and repair of equipment fall under the category of systematic equipment management. First, clarify the scope of responsibilities; for the planned maintenance of existing equipment, it is essential to argue firmly, persuade senior management, and explain the importance of such maintenance. Go into detail at every step. I believe that today’s business owners all pursue a business approach aimed at achieving maximum profits at minimum cost, often ignoring this aspect or simply not understanding it. . . . So, the key question is how to persuade the leadership to implement your equipment management regulations.
Preventive maintenance: Based on past equipment failure patterns, planned maintenance is carried out in advance on devices that are likely to fail (for example, machine seals that can be repaired by grinding do not need to be replaced with new ones)； Cleaning of the pipelines in the pump cooling system to ensure smooth flow of cooling water; Management of equipment integrity: Regularly switching between operating equipment to maintain a 100% availability rate for the equipment.
This is also related to the company’s culture; it’s a comprehensive issue. Different people have varying views regarding maintenance work. It seems that equipment management can only be done in a thorough and comprehensive manner.
If maintenance and repairs are not integrated with production, not linked to the manufacturing processes, and there is no proper communication and coordination between production and operations, then even after working for another 10 or 20 years, things will remain as they are now. View the device from outside of it, manage it from outside of it, and you’ll notice a difference!

Yes, there is nothing that can be fully quantified and standardized for universal implementation; each stage and step lacks specific data support in terms of actual execution, relying entirely on personal experience and intuition. With the same plan, the same equipment, and the same process, different maintenance results can be achieved in different companies.
