Epoxy glass flake coating: The general properties of epoxy glass flake coating are the same as those of epoxy resin coatings. The volume solid content of the solvent-based version is also around 80%; a single coating can achieve a dry film thickness of 200–400 microns, with a curing temperature of over 10°C. The steel requires sandblasting to Sa2.5 grade to allow direct application of 2×250 microns. To achieve optimal rust prevention properties, an epoxy zinc-rich primer can be applied to the substrate after sandblasting, with a film thickness of no more than 25 microns. To attain this result, the epoxy zinc-rich primer can be diluted by 20–40%. The solvent-free glass flake coating has a solid content of 100%, allowing for a dry film thickness of up to 500 microns per application; it can be used in the ice-prone areas along the hull of ships. To achieve the best corrosion and wear resistance, no diluents should be added during application; two-component thermal spraying can be used for this purpose. By adding coal tar pitch to epoxy resin, the cost of the coating can be reduced and its waterproof properties can be improved. Compared with pure epoxy glass flake coatings, the operating temperature drops from 120°C to 80°C, while their resistance to solvents and acids and bases also decreases accordingly. The phenolic epoxy glass flake coating is solvent-free, and it possesses quite strong chemical resistance; in addition to ordinary solvents, it can also resist strong solvents such as methanol.
