1. Corrosion condition in the tower top reflux section: The weld at the lower flange of the inlet of the solvent regeneration reflux tank V-5002 is corroded and leaking, causing acidic gas to be emitted in a misty form; acidic water is present on the external insulation of the reflux tank as well as on the floor. The hydrogen sulfide content in the acidic gas emitted from the leak point is 93%, causing the portable alarm to keep sounding. Corrosion and perforation of the tube bundle in the tower top circulating water aftercooler have simultaneously led to substandard quality of the circulating water. 2 Corrosion analysis of the tower top reflux section: The temperature of the vapor phase at the tower top is below 70 °C after air cooling, and high concentrations of H2S, CO2, H2O, along with a small amount of chloride ions, are present. Analysis of the corrosion status of the tower top reflux tank and the coil of the circulating water aftercooler: the result of the combined effects of wet hydrogen sulfide corrosion, erosion corrosion, and electrochemical corrosion. 3 Corrosion protection for the tower top reflux section: The material in this area has been replaced with 316, which offers better corrosion resistance. Enhance the heat treatment process for the weld areas of pipelines and equipment to reduce stress accumulation. From a process perspective, using the higher-performing diethanolamine solvent can reduce the load on the equipment as well as minimize the risk of corrosion in the tubes of the overhead circulating water heat exchanger.
