The medium pumped by this diaphragm pump is dilute hydrochloric acid. Could you please help determine whether the corrosion is caused by hydrochloric acid leaking in from the outside or by the medium seeping in from inside?
This corrosion is likely caused by the internal medium. When a diaphragm pump is used to pump dilute hydrochloric acid, the risk of internal corrosion increases. Dilute hydrochloric acid is itself a highly corrosive medium, and prolonged use will directly corrode the internal components of the pump. External leakage of hydrochloric acid usually only causes localized surface corrosion, and does not lead to widespread or deep corrosion as it does in internal cases.
