Tube leakage and material optimization in ammonia synthesis water coolers

It is currently known that in many ammonia synthesis plant water coolers, the tubes develop internal leaks and blockages after 2 to 4 years of use, prompting replacements in severe cases. Our company’s water coolers also encountered the same problem after 2 years of operation; the tubes were originally designed to be made of 20# steel, with a thickness of 3.5 mm and a pressure rating of 14 MPa. The circulating water levels were within the design specifications. Please discuss the reasons and possible improvements; could it be that the original design standards were too low?
Change to stainless steel. We have done it.
