Minor Technical Upgrades in Xintian Coal Chemical’s Gasification Process Yield Significant Results Author/Source: Zhejiang Energy Xintian Coal Chemical Date: 10-30-2020 Clicks: 49 Recently, with blue welding flames in action, the technical upgrades to some of the crude gas sampling pipelines in Xintian Coal Chemical’s gasification workshop were completed. These upgrades successfully resolved the problem of improper circulation of the gas sampled from these pipelines, as well as inaccurate sampling analysis, achieving twice the results with half the effort. This approach not only improves the accuracy of sampling but also achieves multiple benefits such as energy savings, cost reduction, and increased efficiency. Xintian Coal Chemical Industry has 22 gasification furnaces, which are responsible for converting raw coal into crude gas. The composition of this crude gas not only reflects the real-time operating conditions of the gasification furnaces but also directly affects the quality of the crude gas as well as the adjustments required in subsequent systems; it has a significant impact on the purity of the natural gas produced. Therefore, it is particularly important to continuously conduct semi-analyses of the carbon dioxide and oxygen contents in the crude gas. Previously, due to design flaws, the sampled coal gas flowed from the crude coal gas separator, through the sampling cooler, to the pressure control valve of the gasifier. Since the pressure at the outlet of the crude coal gas separator was the same as that at the gasifier’s pressure control valve, the coal gas in the sampling pipeline could not circulate; as a result, the samples of crude coal gas were not representative and even inaccurate, posing a risk to the accuracy of analyses of the crude coal gas in the gasifier. Faced with this challenge, the company’s gasification workshop discussed possible solutions, conducted repeated tests and comparisons, and ultimately decided to modify the raw gas sampling pipeline to be connected after the raw gas pressure control valve, thereby ensuring the accuracy of raw gas sampling. Currently, after the technical upgrades to this crude gas system, it not only performs well but also eliminates the need for maintenance workers to carry out exhaust inspections, achieving benefits such as energy savings, cost reduction, and improved efficiency. Small technical improvements can have a big impact; one such innovation improved the accuracy of crude gas analysis and ensured the proper operation of the gasification furnace. In response to such small reforms, inventions, and designs, the company’s gasification workshop actively encourages its employees to be innovative and pragmatic. At present, all employees are working together with full commitment to carry out technical improvements and boost production, striving tirelessly to meet the annual natural gas targets.
